My parents owned the fort pierce zoo many many years ago. They had done the same exact thing. We had a collie Shepard that always developed milk for babies of all kinds. Lion cubs, leapers cubs, racoon babies other dog pups and yes even kittens. It was a wonderful childhood. I love all animalsI’ve seen it many times, both human and animal. Family is less about biology and more about love, support, encouragement and “being there” when needed the most. Blood doesn’t make a family, love does.
In the early 60s my brother was working at the city zoo. A lion had 2 Cubs a k killed one, they took the other cub away from her. My brother’s German shepherd had just had pups so he brought the cub home. The dog took the cub in and nursed him. We kept the lion till he was just starting to get his mane then my brother took him back to the zoo.So sad for that lioness oh, she really has no idea what she missed out on. But then again she could have been stressed out because of her environment. I don’t know I’m not a doctor I’m just taking a wild guess.
