Anne Sargent was on her⤠kitchen floor, tears streaming down her face.â It was late⣠at night, the only moment she could âlet out her sadness â when âher three kids were asleep upstairs.
Feeling the baby move inside her, Anne gently placed a hand on her belly. âIâm sorry,â she murmured âto the child⣠not yet âborn. âIâm trying⣠my hardest,⤠but itâs just not enoughâŚâ
Only two months earlier, Anne had been a truly âjoyful wife and mother, eagerly awaiting the arrival â¤of herâ fourth child andâ feeling secure in both her life and husbandâs affection. âThat â˘woman seemed lost now.

One night Derek came home and announced he was leaving without any⤠warning. âBut why?â Anne questioned.⣠âI thought we were happy!â
âYOU⢠were happy!â Derek shouted back. âYOU! Not me!â All you did was have kidsâ and take care of them; âŁnow thereâs⢠another âone coming!â
âBut you wanted children!â âŁAnne âargued â˘back.⢠âYou âŁseemed happy every â¤time I got pregnantâŚââ¤
âHappy?â yelledâ Derek furiously.â âHappy that you gave all your âŁlove to our kids? To you I was â˘just a paycheck! Well thatâs âdone with!â
Soâ three months after âŁannouncing she would have another baby, Derek vanished âŁfromâ their lives âcompletely.. Immediately after he left⤠, Anne â¤found herself a part-time job at a nearby grocery store.
The owner wouldâve offered full-time work but for that sheâd need to pay⤠for someone to watch over the boys â˘which would â¤eat up most of what she earned⣠so sheâ carefully managed what little money she had . â˘Evenâ with some support from derek it still wasnât enough .
To make ends meet , anne started selling some old china passed down⢠from grandma which helped cover bills forâ several months . Then there âwent an⤠old silver brush-and-mirror set sheâd kept âsince âchildhood which paidâ for food . Little by little as time passed &her belly grew bigger , anne⤠sold offâ precious items just to keep everyone fed &safe .
Eventually there wasnât anything valuable left except â¤junk around the house â˘. She glanced at an ancient stroller sheâd pulled up from storage.. It belonged⤠to Her as a baby &had been⢠used by eachâ kid afterwardsâ too ; â˘though veryâ old probably datingâ back decades it remained in great shape still â!

Running fingers along roses painted onto⣠its side made tears well upâ again ; needing this âstroller for new baby but needing cash even more than thatâŚShe thought about getting good priceâ selling it⣠at flea market since vintage stuff always sells well⌠So off went stroller â¤where dealer offered â$50 not much really but every bit counts â!
Annes âwalked away knowing sheâd likely never see âstroller againâ until two⣠days later opening⤠front door revealed surprise -the same stroller sat waiting on porch!
A note⣠inside read :âPlease call me.â Followed by phone âŁnumber;⤠curious anne dialed number where woman answered.
âHello?â said annes,âDid u leave my stroller? How did u know whoâ owned it?â
âDerek told me,â replied voice on other âŁend.âIâm âŁGrace Robbs; we âŁshould meet.â
An hour⤠later grace sat sipping tea while âlooking unhappy; â¤younger than annes maybe six⣠or seven years with blotchy skinâ showing signs of crying recentlyâŚ
âI âwas his girlfriend,â Grace mentioned.
âWas?â Anne questioned. â¤âYou two broke âŁup?â

âToday, actually,â Grace said and began to cry. âI didnât knowâŚI had no âŁidea about you or the kids, or the âŁbaby⌠I found out I was expecting, and I didnât know how to tell himâŚâ
âSo I went⤠toâ a flea market with âa friend and saw this cute strollerâ and bought it. I placed it in âthe middle of the living room and tied âballoonsâ to⣠it⤠with a note:⣠âHello Dad!ââ
âBut he wasnât excited like⢠I thought heâd be. He started â¤yelling and asking âwhere II got that stroller and if his â˘dumb wifeâ had given âŁit to me.⢠He wondered if it was some kind of joke.â
âHe told me to return it right away, that he didnât â˘want anything to do⤠with âyour baby. So I said:⤠âItâs for OUR baby.â And âthatâs when⢠he lost â¤it.â
âHe accused me of trying to trap him,â saying he already had three kids with you and one more on the way, so âheâ didnât want my âŁchild at all! He told me to leave and go⤠back âto you.â
âHe said:â âMight as⣠well have all the breeding cows under one roof.â⢠Iâmâ really sorry; I didnât know about you! Guess I didnât know him â¤at all!â
Anne stood⢠up & wrapped her arm around the crying girl. âItâs âokay! âŁIt willâ be alright; youâll â¤see.â
ââHeâs kicked me out,â Grace whispered â¤softly.âI have no family âŁhere & nowhere else⌠Iâve got a job but rents are so high in thisâ city; living alone is impossible & who would want a pregnant roommate?â
âI will!â Anne replied â˘strongly.âI need someone because what Iâmâ making isnât enough & canât work full-time⢠since babysitting after school is too expensive.â
âButâŚâ Graceâsâ face brightened up.âI work online! After school care for kids is easy for me.I love children!â

âSo can⤠i takeâ on â˘full-time work?â asked Anne happily.âThe grocery store owner wants ME TO âŁmanage things for him. With your help,I can do⣠this! And donât worry about stuff âŁfor your baby. After having threeâ kids,Iâve got plenty!â
Grace smiled through her tears.âAnd we have that stroller tooâŚâ she pointed out.âAre you sure? Itâsâ Derekâs⢠kidâŚâ
ââNo,â Anne shook⢠her head.âItâs YOUR child,and my childrenâs âsiblingâthatâs what matters most.â
The two women began their newâ life together, and when Anne gave birth,Grace was there. When four months later,it âwas Graces turn.Anne â¤held her hand. They became likeâ family raising five children âŁtogether.
âAs for Derekâhe faced âmany⢠failed relationships âŁbefore finally showing up âat Annes door.He looked shocked seeing âgrace there asking if they could talk.Anne asked,âWhat do âyou want,Derek?â
âI miss âYOU babeâŚâDerek replied.
Anne stared long then said,âSorryânot interested!â And she shut the door⣠in his face.
