Another problem with the cardboard bed is the weight it supports. As you said, it only supports around 220 lbs. Most adults are more heavy than that, myself included. I’d like to try one of these beds but being almost 100 lbs heavier than its limit, I’d crush it I most like the Japanese book bed – as for myself though, I have a queen sized bed, which I share with my beloved Paddington, Edward, Pandy, Dafyd, Polie, Tara, Daddy and my other 40 in total, teddy bears – I’m 53, live alone and I’ve always had teddy bears as a child – I even travel with a big teddy bear (since I’ve got no hunky muscle man, boyfriend or husband to cuddle with..
There really is cardboard furniture, and it does really work well. You can coat cardboard with waterproof material. IDK if any of the cardboard furniture producers have done that, but I would think if it’s got color on it that may be also waterproof or resistant? Anyway, it’s very a very good idea and I wish It were more popular and available and less expensive.
When I was young, I had a waterbed for a time. My friends loved jumping and rolling on it. Eventually I decided I didn’t like it, so we put a regular mattress in the frame. One day one of my friends and I were walking down the hall towards my room, when suddenly my friend took off, running into my room.
I hurried to the room door just in time to see them leap onto the bed, and promptly bounce off the other side. They peered at me over the bed and cried “WHAT HAPPENED?” I burst out laughing and said “I don’t have a waterbed anymore. Sorry.” It took me a long time to stop laughing.
It wasn’t until fairly recently that I discovered I never move in my sleep. You know how some people go though a whole retinue of positions while they sleep? Maybe even most people. I don’t. I fall asleep and I don’t move until I wake up. How do I know? Because it was only when I began to sleep alone in a full-size bed (and make my bed every morning) that I discovered this. I mention it only because the 2nd bed, the custom shaped one, might work for me. Not sure if I want to put myself to the test, though. I don’t always sleep in the same position. Also, one reason for this is that I am a very light sleeper. The least little thing will wake me up. I guess that includes moving.
