Recently, Brooklyn’s NYPD 60th Precinct welcomed a special new member onto their team. An adorable 6-month-old tabby kitten!
The sweet orphaned kitten was abandoned at the station, and quickly won the hearts of the officers. Purring his way around the station, he jumped into the officer’s laps, snuggling up to them. They quickly fell in love and there was no way they wanted to take him to the animal shelter. So, they came up with a plan B!
They convinced the commanding officer that the station should adopt the kitten. The boss agreed that as long as they cleaned up after him, the little tabby would make an excellent addition to the team!
“I told them, ‘I have two cats at home and two dogs, and I don’t have a problem with it, but we got to get a litter box and you have to clean out the litter box,” Deputy Inspector William Taylor explained to Brooklyn Paper.
“I’ll even foot the expense, the food, the water, the treats — but I’m not cleaning out the litter box.’”
Everyone agreed, and the precinct’s newest member is now fondly known as, Martin – named after Officer Martin D. Costanza, one of the officers who had pleaded to keep him.
Martin is now living his best life at the precinct, enjoying being spoilt by all the officers! He joins at roll call each day, “inspecting” everyone and making everyone smile!
“He cheers me up. The guys come by and get a chuckle out of him, the ones who are having a hard day,” Taylor said.
“He’s definitely lifted spirits. There’s not one person here, cop or civilian, that doesn’t adore this cat,” Deputy Inspector William Taylor told the New York Post. “He has the run of the precinct. He took control of the place right away.”
