I love what she has done. Given the size of the bags and the fertilizer she is giving each plant, each plant should be able to give her 2 melons. I think the melons would be a lot sweeter if they remained on the vine until they were fully ripe. The vine close to the melon needs to dry out and or shrivel up before harvesting the melons, If she did this she could harvest fewer melons over a longer period of time, just by watching for the stems to dry out. All her hard work is impressive.
This video shows the amazing forethought, planning and patience of the person who has achieved this feat of organization. It shows the lady harvesting and eating the fruits of her labor. I assume she is the one who performed this beautiful piece of gardening. We don’t know where she is from, but judging by her appearance, she is either from South American background or from the Far East or from somewhere like Vietnam, Thailand etc. Time and again I have been impressed by the ingenuity, resourcefulness and craftsmanship of people from these backgrounds. Whether it is in kitchen gardening or in crafts like weaving baskets or designing animal traps etc, these guys leave the rest of us standing. The Southern/Eastern hemisphere has taught us all so much. Good luck and good wishes to this lady and the video makers, who also showed great professional skills.
If you add egg shells as a moisture cover, what you did is fine. If you want to get calcium to your plants, mix your egg shells 50/50 by volume first with vinegar. You will see the fizz and neutralization of the acid. This will however make the calcium plant ready for absorption. Much or most of the calcium is converted to plant ready. Just shells take a year or more. If your soil is too acidic, just egg shells will help reduce acidity if mixed into the soil as opposed to on top.
I would like to say thank you for inspiring us to love or doing gardening. It’s really good to get our fresh fruit without worrying about pesticides and eat what we grow. But I would love you to share us how to mix soil, or compost. What should we use? Thank you so much!
