Donnie Yen vs Darren
I loved Darren Shalavi on Kickboxer: Vengeance as Eric Sloane, which was his last movie before he passed away because of a heart attack. Darren was a stunt man and martial artist, he learned Shotokan karate, Muay Thai , boxing and king boxing. Darren played in 38 movies. At the end of Kickboxer: Vengeance they had a dedication to Darren Shalavi, I was like what!!
I like how Ip Man decides to be not like the Twister by killing his opponent. Instead, he shows grace in mercy and stops the punching on Twister, even though he absolutely was in the position to disable the Twister for the rest of his life.So for anyone who is confused to the ending part, what Ip Man was trying to do first was attacking the boxer’s arms to disable him, and then he would have otherwise targeted the ribs but he didn’t need to so he was able to go on the offensive against Twister after disabling his arms and nullifying his attack. The original translation for that part 9:55 is “test his ribs”
Ip Man vs Twister
I love that they showed Ip Man, THE master of Wing Chun, still adapting to Twister’s arguably more practical boxing techniques. I know that this is fiction and in reality, fights never are this clean. However, I can appreciate the choreographers choosing to have Donnie Yen’s movements to bob and weave much like Twister is doing towards the end of the fight. He can’t just keep static since his opponent is not ONLY bigger, but actually very well trained and experienced.
