Beautiful trees! the silk floss ( ceiba speciosa) & the red silk cotton tree (bombax ceiba) are beautiful too. I think they’re up there as some of the prettier trees. I read the “floss” from the fruits of the tree were used for stuffing & they are beautiful. The pink silk floss & the African Pom Pom tree “Dias cotinifolia,” are some of my favs not mentioned on here. Also the honk Kong orchid tree (bauhinia) are also very beautiful. I favor the white ‘bauhinia variegata Alba’ which’s more cold tolerant. Now that I moved to an area that gets a lil’ frost. I miss the jacaranda & orchid trees back in my hometown of St.Petersburg, fla. I used to pick purple “orchids” off the neighbors tree & break stems off my mawmaws jacarandas. Now that I’m older, she prob cringed @ me doing this to her tree..
I would love it if you included proper / scientific names of the trees.
In Australia, the Flamboyant Tree is called The Poinciana (Delonix regia). They come in several shades of orange to deep red flowers and some varieties have smaller leaflets while others have slightly larger leaflets. The Jacarandas that we have in Australia also come in several colours ranging from deep purple through to pink and pristine white. Monarch Butterflies are also native to Australia but rarely migrate more than a few 100miles. They live almost exclusively on Milk Weed (Swan Plant) even though they can drink from other flowers but only lay eggs on the milk weed. Due to the milk weed being classified a weed of grazing areas in coastal subtropical eastern Australia where the weed is cleared or sprayed, the butterfly is becoming endangered.
