All that I can say is “wow”, “wow”, “wow “. Never in my life had I imagine dolphins can do that – fish with a brain catching other fish. I can’t think far. That’s it for me. Wow. Thank you for sharing. Next time I see a dolphin, I would respect it.
Depending on how you define “tool” otters aren’t the only ones. Packs of dolphins will use loose sediment by dragging their tails to trick fish into thinking there are barriers in the water. When the fish try to jump it, the rest of the pack are waiting on the other side ready to catch the fish mid air.
“Man has always assumed that he is more intelligent than dolphins because he has achieved so much-the wheel, New York, wars and so on – while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But, conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man — for precisely the same reasons.” Douglas Adams, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.
If you’re ever stranded on an island or in the woods you can use this same strategy with rocks and create a zone for spear fishing. You basically want to chase the fish into your trap and either net them out of the water, of spear them.ve seen Dolphins do this in the Gulf of Carpentaria Australia. The fish are a bit bigger though, they round up travaily. Some times sharks get in on it too. Its exciting to watch and i count myself lucky to have had the experience.
