A man who was cut in half by a forklift has shared a horrifying photo of the moment it fell on him.Ā
Loren Schauers, from Montana,Ā U.S.A., was 19 years old when he plummeted off the side of a bridge driving a forklift truck in 2019.
In the accident, the industrial truck crushed the lower of his body and one of his arms.
Now, Loren has provided further detail on the traumatic experience.

Lorenās life was saved through a rare and complex procedure known as hemicorporectomy, a surgery in which a personās lower half is amputated.
TheĀ National Library of MedicineĀ elaborates: āIn hemicorporectomy, or trans lumbar amputation, the bony pelvis, pelvic contents, lower extremities, and external g**italia are removed following disarticulation of the lumbar spine and transection of the spinal cord.ā
Lorenās arm which was squashed in the accident was also partially amputated.
Following the life-changing ordeal, he and his wife Sabia set up a YouTube channel where they often hold Q&As.

In one video, Loren revealedĀ how he goes to the bathroomĀ following his hemicorporectomy.
He explained that he had a colostomy, which is a surgery to create an opening in the large intestines.
AsĀ HealthlineĀ explains: āColostomies are performed due to problems with the lower bowel and create new pathways for stools to pass.ā
Loren added that he also has bilateral nephrectomies, which are ātubes that go into my kidneys that drain my kidneys into bags so, therefore, that is how I poop, pee and fart.ā
In another Q&A, Loren opened up about his life after the accident andĀ how it has affected his friendships.

One person asked him: āDo your friends still treat you the same way they used to before the accident? Are you happy, surprised, or disappointed by some of them?ā
In response, Loren said (perĀ MailOnline): āIāve been a little surprised by some of them.
āA couple of friends came out of the woodworks and have been really supportive, [others] totally reverted and have been reclusive.
āBut itās whatever to me, you know, I got Sabia, thatās all I need.ā

Loren has also recounted theĀ day of his life-changing accidentĀ and how he was āconscious the whole time.ā
He recalled being thrown from the forklift at the end of the hill and landing on his hips and right forearm. A piece of his arm muscle lay on the ground next to him, blown apart.
Loren has a shared photo from the accident, as reported by theĀ Daily Star.
The news outlet reports that he uploaded images onĀ InstagramĀ and in one, he says he can be seen āpinned under the forkliftā if you look closely.
